Operation Santa

Operation Santa continues with a number of dedicated Santa's Helpers who are busy coordinating details. We're getting reports that almost all packages have been mailed, and that the generosity of people all over the country towards troops who will be in war zones over the holidays is amazing.

This picture was taken at 11:00 last night as we continue to wrap stocking stuffers and gifts to be sent to Marines in Iraq. We hope to be mostly done early next week and Connie will have her living room back!

Operation Santa Project Directors are:

Connie Riecke riecke@marinecorpsmoms.com
Deb Conraddeb@marinecorpsmoms.com

Please contact Deb or Connie with questions about Operation Santa.
If you have a question about a specific battalion, please contact Deb or Connie. We've covered 1/7, 1/23, 2/10, 9th Comm, and 4th LAAD. We have a few folks working on partial battalions.

Donations can be made to:

Until everything is out the door this year, we'll continue to accept donations. Excess donations will be saved for Operation Santa in 2005 when we hope to cover all Marines deployed in war zones over the holidays. We'll start much earlier next year - if you are interested in coordinating a platoon, company, or battalion, we'd love to talk with you. All donations made to Operation Santa will be used for direct troop support unless the donor specifically tells us that we can use it for administrative expenses. We will fundraise after the project concludes to pay ourselves back for the administrative part of this project, including our cell phone bills - yikes! A complete accounting of all monies received and expenditures will be published at the end of this project. Thanks to everyone out there who is helping our Marines have a merrier Christmas. This would not have been possible without an amazing group of volunteers who stepped up and said "I can do this" . . . and then they did it!

Operation Santa for the 9th Comm BN has had an overwhelming response from family, friends and the community. Our quilting team has sewn 220 Santa Sacks and will have more next week. We've been receiving donations and stocking items this last week. Next week Operation Santa will be in the media, newspapers and on local radio stations. The key is getting the word out in as many forms as possible. The greatest of all has been the word of mouth and email. I've received emails around the states from Marine families that want to support. It has been such an uplift to my spirit and I know when the Marines receive their stockings they too will be thrilled to see how much we all really care about them. Continuing to plan the particulars for the stuffing and packing ceremony. Many volunteers. We will be taking pictures to post for all to see. I now know what its like to have an extended family...Thank you all for your generous donations, contributions and support. God Bless and continue to pray for our troops.

FYI for 9th Comm BN, we are revising our "stuffing" date from Nov. 6th to Oct. 30th due to the Marines Ball held on Nov. 6th. We have the honors of having Marines present at our ceremony.... Will be a nice time to talk with them and have their participation with all the volunteers. Please mark your calendars.

Well, Deb I have sent out my email to family and friends and Mary called to let me know she is putting the fabric in the mail so I guess I am ready to get the ball rolling. I have emailed the FRO to find out how many Marines and Sailors are in the MSSG24/Medical unit and I am hoping he gets back to me REAL SOON ! I have my daughers office onboard now and they are planning on making donation of money/gift cards to help out. And her Mother in Law is going to help with the sewing and maybe with collecting donations from her hair salon customers. So hopefully we will be able to get this done one way or another. Tom has the flyer posted at his work place and has at least one lady that wants to help sew also.

Okay ya'll wish me luck,
Frankie

Deb,
I talked to Chris today and he gave me the numbers for the MSSG-24/ Medical unit. There are 30 Navy and 4 Marines in the unit. Makes sense, after all it is medical. So looks like I won't have to make a huge amount of stockings. The fabric that Mary is sending has not arrived yet, and I did tell some of the other Moms that if it is more than I need I will pass it on to them. I sent out a few more flyers today too.

Greetings.
I signed up for a small platoon about two weeks ago. since then my sister and I have put Operation Santa flyers all over our small town. The response has not been as good as we would like, but my Mom says it will get better. I was not sent a pattern for the stockings, but that is ok because I made my own. How soon will I get the number of men in my platoon? We are planning for fifteen.

The new lead photo really illustrates what makes America strong, and at the same time what makes it so hard for Afghanistan and Iraq to 'get it together'. In America we can get members from the different 'tribes' all working together for one nation (at least most of the time).

Just a note to say thanks to the coordinators of this wonderful "project". I have been looking for a way to show my support for our troops overseas and this is perfect. My family is proud of the job our armed forces are doing to secure freedom and keep us safe from terror here at home. Our thoughts and prayers are with the troops and also with the families here at home. I hope our care packages will give some weary and homesick Marines a taste of home and let them know how proud we are of them. Thank you for this opportunity to show our appreciation. God bless everyone, Janet from CA

Hey Everyone working on Operation Santa : I just got a wonderful phone call from a young lady that works in the Engineering Dept with my husband Tom. She went back to her college here in Longview, LeTourneau University, and raised $500.00 for me to use for my bunch of Marines and Sailors. Can you believe it ! I am just dumbfounded and so grateful. She is even going to help me box up the goodies and go shopping for the goodies. Looks like we are way over the top here. Got all my stockings cut out this weekend, so gonna start sewing soon. The Marine and Navy recruiters are to have their boxes of coffee mugs, water bottles, t-shirts and whatever ready for me today and I hope to hear from Dillard's soon on the "hygiene Items" .

Somebody besides me must have been praying really hard.
