A Marine writes home
Via Powerline, this letter is a must-read for those incensed by Kevin Sites' video.
This is one story of many that people normally don't hear, and one that everyone does. |
Oohrah. And thanks for the perspective.
Steve from Hog On Ice asks a follow-up question:
. . . what ever happened to "WE SUPPORT OUR TROOPS!"? |

We support that Marine's decision 100% and I can't imagine what is wrong with that reporter.
Where was he when those terrorists shot that Hassan women in the head, unarmed, tied and a muslim besides. I was glad to hear our local news casters in the Twin Cities sided with the Marine when they reported the story.

Come riding into a country on the moral high horse. No WMD's? Whatever, because you are there to help the Iraqis, right? But you can't always follow the rules because, after all, the enemy doesn't play fair! Tit-for-Tat--It doesn't work that way when you are supposed to be the teacher. We jumped in to play mommy and daddy, so we have to set the proper example. I am sorry if everybody thought we were going to go in and bully up on the sand people and now it turns out that we are the ones getting bullied. As far as the unlawful killing--Now marginal Iraqis may be compelled to act in kind--What other options do they have--they can't trust you--Daddy.

With all due respect, I am not quite sure how the invasion of Iraq helps anyone to retain the right to sit on their asses. In fact, there are good statistics to demonstrate that Iraq has only excacerbated global tensions. Although our American reporters may be able to hide the truth, all any curious person needs to do is to read the foriegn news (in particular the BBC). You are angry at the embed because he aired the raw truth--now the Marines have shunned him. There is so much more that has gone wrong over there than one incident caught on tape. Don't forget the snipers taking out women and children. Don't forget that injured, sick civilians have been turned away by the folded arms and turned backs of the Marine Corps. Childhood malnutrition has doubled since the invasion while Marines eat yummy chicken and mashed potatos. Water is filthy. You can't get the electric on. You haven't won hearts; you haven't won minds. American civilians do not care because there is nothing at stake for them (come to my University and you will hear, "Hey! They signed the contract to fight; I didn't, so I don't want to hear complaining." Where is the love on either side? You squeezed the freedom fighters out of Fallujah but didn't kill the bulk of them. And now, after all of that, you want to be able to kill indiscriminately because the people that you are supposed to set the example for don't want to play by your rules. I guess you should have tamed your moral high horse before taking her for a ride into a den of rattlesnakes. And as far as the whole 'If you think you can do a better job then get off your ass and lace up your boots and come on over to Iraq'-mentality: OK, I will, after all, somebody needs to introduce a higher conduct. You all need to take a good long look at the truth. Sure, you can call Americans morons and tell them that they don't deserve their freedom and whatnot, but I don't think that is what you promised to do when you took the oath for this nation. Read your contracts: You are supposed to be fighting for America and the Constitution, but somehow I feel that you are just fighting for yourselves.
